Email Hosting FAQ's

Q. How long will it take for my new Email Hosting Plan to become active?
A. Email Hosting Plans are activated in real time.  As soon as we have received confirmation of your payment, your account will become live. On very rare occasions, accounts will sometimes be queued for activation, this is usually because the confirmation of payment failed.

Q. Can I have a free trial of an email hosting plan?
A. All of our email hosting plans have a no fuss 30-day money-back guarantee so if you don't like your hosting simply let us know. Please note that this offer excludes domain name fees and some hosting add-ons.

Q. How much email storage do I get?
A. Each email account is limited to 1GB per mailbox.

Q. Are there any size limits on emails sent from / received to my email account?
A. No, we have not placed any size restrictions for emails sent from / received  to our email servers, however  each mailbox is limited to 1GB in total. If you receive an email that is larger than 1GB or you otherwise reach this limit, the new mail will be stored as normal but any subsequent new mail will eventually be bounced. Also we have no control over restrictions imposed on 3rd party email servers of other senders / recipients.

Q. Do you provide an outgoing SMTP email server?
A. Yes, we provide authenticated SMTP. To use it you'll need to tell your email client that the outgoing mail server requires authentication, some may ask you to specify the username and password for this - just enter the same as the incoming mail server login.

Q. What is the difference between POP3 and IMAP4 email?
A. You may have noticed that with your desktop email client, and our webmail facility, you are given the option of accessing your mail through POP3 or IMAP4.

These are two different email protocols, and our email servers support both protocols.

POP3 is downloaded directly from the email server onto your computer via a desktop email client. Your computer will store a "local copy" of the email, and usually delete it from the server. You can create local folders on your computer to organise the mail, but you won't see these or your email if you logged in using webmail. Additionally, if you create folders to organise your mail in webmail, you won't be able to access these on your desktop email client. Email will therefore only contribute towards the mailbox limits while it is left un-downloaded in the inbox.

IMAP4, in contrast, is left on the email server (where it will continue contributing towards your mailbox limit). If you create folders/organise your email in your desktop email client, you will see this update when you log in with the webmail client (and vice-versa). Similarly, when you mark a message as "read" in webmail, it will appear "read" in your desktop email client.

If you're accessing your email on several different computers, IMAP4 can therefore be useful. However, if you expect to receive high volumes of email, or want to be able to access your email offline, POP3 is the better option, as it will be downloaded and stay on your local computer, helping you to keep within your email account storage limits.

Q. Do you provide junk email filters / virus scanning?
A. Yes, junk email filters are provided free of charge on all hosting plans. They can be turned on and configured through your hosting control panel. Virus scanning is provided for free for one domain on all business hosting accounts and is available  for additional domains and all other hosting plans for a yearly fee per domain.
